BMW choose the most well equipped crossover

Superior BMW X5M, despite all its advantages, is not available to all of us. And it’s not so easy to buy something common to this BMW. By technical parameters and cost only some cars are close to this powerful brand, it’s: Jeep, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

But first – a few words about the hero of the occasion. The main source of pride of this car creators is its engine: no wonder that you can even listen to its sound on the corporate website. Twin-turbocharged of 4.4-liter squeezes out of the working volume of 575 hp, which gives liter capacity of 130 hp, and it is the highest value in our review. Passport accelerating dynamics is also the best: 4.2 seconds from rest to 100 km / h, while fuel consumption is very modest – 14.7 l / 100 km in the urban cycle. However, we know that the real appetite rarely corresponds to the figures in the tables, and the owners of these cars are hardly much concerned about the cost of fuel. But surely even a very rich man will appreciate the fact that BMW X5M is much cheaper than most of its closest peers.

At first glance, it is strange to talk about the cheapness in relation to the car with a starting price of several million. The most affordable 306-horsepower X5 x Drive 35i has almost the same the price and the performance in power. Moreover, the “M” in the database has a richer equipment: exemplary front seats are heated and electrically adjustable, front panel is decorated with leather, the fifth door can be opened and closed automatically, it has a climate control, adaptive suspension with pneumoelements behind and adaptive LED headlights . Plus, of course, there is a complete set of security systems and 20-inch alloy wheels of special “M” -Design, which is shod in different tires: the front one are narrower, the rear are wide.

Let’s start with wheels to select some of the options. If the client wishes to receive a standard-size discs, but black in color, he will have to pay almost 500 dollars, and for 21-inch “rollers” – a couple of thousand dollars. Let’s add to this a circular scanning system, head-up display, parking assistant, pressure sensor in tires and a panoramic glass roof – all this is just for nearly 100 000 dollars. If you have more money, you can even order a night vision system, navigation, door closers, “High-End” sound system Harman Kardon, and the M Driver’s Package, which includes the removal of the maximum speed limit to 250 km / h – it increases to 280 km / h – and the subscription for corporate training. Including all this, it looks very touching one another option: you can pay additional approximately 200 dollars for the spare tire.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo: a Turbo

According to the riding quality BMW X5M is often compared with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, equipped with a 570-horsepower engine and capable of reaching hundreds of even 0.1 seconds faster. However, in terms of value comparison is incorrect because the starting price of the Cayenne even more than 130 thousand dollars, so we’ll stop on Turbo version.  It has 520 h.p., per liter is for approximately 108 forces. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 4.5 seconds, while its maximum is almost the same as the “BMW” with deactivated limiter in 279 km / h. They have also a similar transmission: both cars are eightfold “automatic”, have a four-wheel drive, controlled by electronically coupling implemented by connecting the front wheels.

But the cost of the Stuttgart “horses” are higher than the Bavarian ones: starting price of Cayenne Turbo is about 110 000 dollars. It’s not just because of the power but because of the whole equipment, it is also more solid than in BMW. In standard there is the electric drive of the fifth door, leather interior, the climate and cruise control, LED Head Light, a system for monitoring condition of tires, all kinds of electric and powerful audio system BOSE, the heating of all seats and parking assistance, and air suspension allows vary the ride height automatically or forcibly. However, the basic wheel are 19-inch, but for a fee you can set and 21-inch wheels.

Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG: the golden mean

Why you give up things when you drive Mercedes?

AMG for Mercedes is roughly the same as that for Motorsport BMW, and it would be foolish not to offer it as a competitor to X5M. More recently, it was a member of the family of ML, but with the latest updates the index was changed to GLE, releasing to the market as the coupe version – a direct competitor to BMW X6.

However, now it goes only on the AMG wagon GLE 63, essentially as before, in two versions – a 557-strong and 585-strong with an additional designation S. Both are equipped with eight bi turbo motor as BMW, and the Porsche, but its working volume is considerably solidly – 5.5 liters, and power density is respectively lower – from 102 to 107 hp / liter. Mercedes also lost in the amount of “automatic” transmission – there are only seven of them here, the latest nine-storey box, obviously, cannot “digest” of torque. Although the dynamics are not affected: 4.2-4.3 seconds acceleration to hundreds, depending on the capacity.

Versions GLE 63 AMG and the S 63 AMG with prices starting at 90 000 US $ and 100 000 $ respectively are exactly in the midway between the BMW X5M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Like most other Mercedes, these are available in a complete set of “Special Series”, which is already the most popular option. In addition to basic items such as climate control and electro package Mercedes marketers also include an automatic fifth door, heated front seats, adaptive LED headlamps, panoramic roof, and interior trim with Nappa leather. In addition, there is air suspension Airmatic (like in Porsche), Active Curve system capable of “clamping” or “dissolve” stabilizers, and a lot of security systems, including active cruise control and monitoring of the condition of the driver.
