General Motors Corporation has presented, perhaps, its latest old-school sports sedan, which should delight fans of the American car industry: a compressor V8 with a capacity of 677 hp, rear-wheel drive with “self-blocking” and a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. “Automatic” is also available, but, as they say, for weaklings.

We must pay tribute, since the appearance of the first Cadillac CTS-V in 2004, the handling of which was set up at the German Nurburgring, American sports sedans have gained respect throughout the world, but the era of such cars is coming to an end – by 2035 GM intends to completely switch to electric vehicles. and with such a prospect, it makes no sense to spend money on the development of new products with powerful gasoline V8s.

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing presented today is a kind of gift for fans of the old-school American car industry, which runs counter to the “green” discourse of GM, and it is made in exactly the same patterns as the first generation CTS-V, only with a slight amendment to the current digital technologies and accessories. Cadillac Blackwing: these will be the most radical models

Under the hood is the good old 6.2-liter LT4 V8 from the past front-engined Chevrolet Corvette: 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger, Rotocast A356T6 aluminum heads, titanium intake valves, modified lubrication and crankcase ventilation systems, high-performance intake systems and release allowed to achieve maximum 677 hp. and 893 Nm – this is the most powerful production Cadillac in history! For comparison, let’s say that the recently presented BMW M5 CS has “only” 635 hp under the hood. and 750 Nm.

The compressor V8 is paired with a 6-speed Tremec manual gearbox by default, while the electronics are able to select the optimal engine speed when shifting gears, and if you wish, you can switch without dumping the gas at all. The drive wheels are rear only, between them there is an electronically controlled self-locking differential with its own cooling circuit. As an option, a 10-speed hydromechanical “automatic” is offered with the possibility of manual selection of steps with magnesium paddle shifters. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing accelerates to 60 mph (96.56 km / h) in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km / h.

The suspension features track-load and high-temperature adaptive Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 shock absorbers with reinforced struts and struts, stiffer springs, stiffer arm mounts and hollow anti-roll bars. Brembo’s brakes are the largest of those used in stock Cadillacs, with 398mm discs and 6-piston calipers at the front, 373mm discs and 4-piston calipers at the rear. Carbon ceramic brakes are available as an option. The forged wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in 275/35 ZR 19 at the front and 305/30 ZR 19 at the rear.

The body received a new aerodynamic body kit blown in a pipe: a front bumper with an enlarged air intake, a rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, ventilation grilles on the front fenders, a spoiler on the trunk lid, and underbody shields. An optional extended CFRP body kit reduces lift by 75%. Cadillac Live, or how to go to the dealership without leaving your home

In the cabin, there are front seats with extended lateral support and 18 electric adjustments (for an additional charge – with ventilation and a massager), an AKG audio system with 15 speakers, a 12-inch fully digital instrument panel, a sports steering wheel, carbon fiber trim.

The base price for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is $ 84,990, applications are already being accepted, but dealers will receive finished cars only in the summer. Each piece will be factory tested on the track and the engines are hand-assembled.

We add that the usual Cadillac CT5 debuted in the spring of 2019, and 2020 was the first full year of its sales, for which, according to the CarSalesBase resource, 14,711 copies of this model were sold in the USA. Meanwhile, the “five” BMW sold in the United States in 2020 with a circulation of 26 785 units, Mercedes-Benz E-class – 25 499 units, Audi A6 – 10 535 units.
