Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4 doors, top of the range preview

7 Jan

We recently talked about the possibility of the Mercedes-AMG range being reduced due to emissions regulations. But it seems that what is left is SUV and that sports versions can proliferate in other types of bodies. In fact, one of the imminent launches that could happen in 2020 would be that of the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4 doors. It would be the first time this denomination appears in the German brand and has already been seen in a teaser.

The truth is that it has been talking about the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 for months due to spy photos that hid a more capable specimen. Currently the most powerful versions of Mercedes-AMG are the 63 (including 63 S), having representation in models such as Class C, Class G, GLC, GLE, GLS or in the AMG GT 4 doors we tested. But the next to arrive would be much more powerful thanks to the use of hybridization.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4 doors that could arrive during the next 2020 will be the authentic production version of that prototype Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. In the prototype, the hybrid propulsion system was supposed to be linked to this new sports name of the brand for the first time. The 4.0-liter V8 biturbo that is so present in the AMG is maintained, although an electric motor would be added to improve response and performance.

There are not too many details in this regard, but it could be a plug-in hybrid that would exceed 800 horsepower, taking more than 150 hp from the current GT63 S. It would maintain 4Matic all-wheel drive and improve performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h around 3 seconds. In this way, it could rival the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and position itself as one of the most capable hybrids on the market. We will have to wait to know the rest of the details of the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4 doors, while its debut date could be the Geneva Motor Show.
