Mercedes is still quite involved with its commercial vehicle division. The Mercedes Sprinter, the family’s big one, was recently renovated. Although it is not industrial, but rather a minivan, now they are also arriving in the V-Class, which includes for the first time the electric version Mercedes EQV. With the same platform and manufactured in the same Vitoria plant, the Mercedes eVito 2020 has just been presented.
This is the electric version of the Mercedes Vito 2015 and will be available in two body sizes and in the van (purely commercial) and Tourer (for nine passengers) versions. The smaller one has a length of 5,140 mm, a load capacity of 1,016 kg and 6 cubic meters of volume. The extended version reaches 5,370 mm, has a capacity of 991 kg and reaches 6.6 cubic meters. In any case, the maximum weight allowed is 3,200 kg. Whichever version you choose, the Mercedes eVito has an electrical mechanic of 116 HP and 300 Nm of torque. This asynchronous propulsion system is located on the front axle, barely weighs 125 kg and is linked to a transmission with a fixed gear ratio. Under the floor it carries a battery of 41 kWh capacity (35 kWh available), which allows it to reach an autonomy of 150 kilometers. It can be recharged in six hours (it is not specified in what type of shot) and the brand guarantees 70% of its capacity after eight years or 100,000 kilometers.
One of the keys to maximizing that autonomy declared by the Mercedes eVito is the energy recovery system. The user can select several retention modes by means of the cams behind the steering wheel, so that in many cases it is not strictly necessary to step on the brake pedal. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz Vans wants to launch a comprehensive program to help users with tasks such as cost calculation (compared to combustion vehicles), feasibility of the electric van (depending on its route and stops) or even the installation of the charging point.
The eDrive @ VANs strategy must also include some interesting applications such as the eVAN Ready to help select vehicles or Mercedes PRO Connect digital services for efficient fleet control. Returning to the Mercedes eVito, its favorable operating costs stand out against an equivalent in diesel. Although it is more expensive (part from 42,900 euros), fuel costs (electricity in this case) are between 50 and 60% lower, while maintenance is also cheaper.
