Shelby Super Snake Speedster: open wide-body muscle car with 836hp V8

22 Mar

Shelby American has unveiled the updated Super Snake sports car based on the Ford Mustang, which will be released in a circulation of 98 copies in honor of the 98th anniversary of the founder of the company, the legendary Carroll Shelby. 25 cars from this edition will receive the unique Speedster open body.

Mr. Shelby left our sinful world in 2012, but the company he founded, of course, continues to celebrate his birthday and coincides with the debuts of new products. The Super Snake is Shelby’s most extreme Mustang yet, with a supercharged V8 built on a 5.0-liter Coyote block for model year 2021, producing a maximum of 836 hp. For comparison, let’s say that the 5.2-liter engine in the stock Mustang Shelby GT500, which is sold through the Ford dealer network, produces “only” 771 hp. In addition, the Mustang Shelby GT500 can only be bought with an “automatic” (7-speed Tremec DCT-type gearbox, that is, with two clutches), and the Super Snake comes in the base with a 6-speed “manual”, although the “automatic” is also available, and with own cooling circuit. The Super Snake accelerates to 60 mph (96.56 km / h) in 3.5 seconds.

The Shelby Super Snake also features a modified rear suspension with reinforced axle shafts, a one-piece universal joint without an intermediate link (available only with manual gearboxes), a short-travel gear lever, powerful Brembo brakes with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear, 20-inch forged wheels, original aerodynamic body kit and improved interior trim. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 exceeds 760 HP and is the most powerful of the brand

For a surcharge, the Penske track suspension and the Wide Body package (widened body and track) are offered, as well as the ability to remove the rear seat and install a power strut in its place. The Speedster version shown in the photographs also has an aerodynamic hood covering the rear seat space in the convertible and a unique color scheme with Speedster Edition lettering on the side sills.

The 2021 Shelby Super Snake will have to shell out a minimum of $ 133,785, while the regular Mustang Shelby GT500 starts at $ 72,900. If you think it’s too expensive, then it makes sense to take a closer look at the Roush Stage 3 Mustang presented in February from the equally renowned tuning studio Roush Performance: a compressor 5.0-liter V8 Coyote is also installed here, but the output is smaller – 785 hp ., and the price is at the level of the stock Mustang Shelby GT500.
