The pre-styled Mitsubishi L200 is still in service, and it has just acquired an off-road version

A special truck is presented in Brazil. It looks according to the status of an “adventure” car, while the new version shares the technology with the standard model.

The Mitsubishi L200 pickup went through restyling back in 2018, it received a two-tier head optics and an X-face. Such a model is already available in all the main markets for the brand, it can also be bought in Brazil, but at the same time they still sell a pre-reform truck there, and in order not to confuse them, the prefix Sport is assigned to the fresh version (Brazilians are offered local assembly cars). The local division of Mitsubishi is not going to abandon the L200 Triton (the full name of the model in this country) in the old body, on the contrary, the company has just expanded the line of the pre-reform pickup: an off-road version of the Savana is presented. By the way, the previous generation Brazilian L200 had a similar performance.

So, Mitsubishi L200 Triton Savana has massive black bumpers and wheel arch extensions, 16-inch wheels are made in the same color (they are “shod” in Pirelli MTR rubber) and exterior mirror housings, a roof rack is installed, there is also a snorkel. The depth of the ford is 700 mm, which, according to the company, is “16.7% more than the traditional L200.” But the ground clearance is the same 220 mm as a regular pickup. The body can be painted in Savana-exclusive yellow, with blue, green, red, white and beige available. Mitsubishi Outlander XL with mileage: when it is easy to choose the engine and transmission

The brand did not show the salon, confining itself to a verbal description: the seats have black fabric upholstery, the multimedia system received a special welcome, in addition, there are mats made of vulcanized rubber inside.

The engine comes from the standard L200 Triton and is a 4N15 2.4 turbo diesel that produces 190 hp. It is curious that on the Savana the engine is combined only with a five-speed “automatic”, although in Brazil the model has a version with “mechanics”. The L200 Triton Savana has Easy Select all-wheel drive (with a hard-wired front end), plus a rear differential lock.

The pickup remains the most popular Mitsubishi model in the Brazilian market, but it is in the red: 9480 units were sold last year, which is 7% less than in 2019. For comparison, the Ford Ranger in 2020 sold 19,833 copies there (-11%), and 32,394 customers (-20%) stopped choosing the Toyota Hilux.

The company has not announced plans to make a version of Savana for the restyled L200.
