So, we continue to talk about such cool cars as the Volkswagen e-Golf and Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 2015. If in the previous article, we could conclude that according to external data (perfect interior also) the majority will give preference to Mercedes, but now everything is not so clear about the technical characteristics.

However, we must tell you what is under the hood of both cars, and it is your business to decide and choose the best for you.

Let’s start with your favorite, with the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350.

Riding experience

When driving around the city, the GLK 350’s steering is reminiscent of the control of an elongated C-class sedan, although, in fact, it is. The control of the SUV is quite sensitive, which, despite its large size, makes the car maneuverable. An improved independent suspension combined with 19-inch wheels helps the car to overcome even significant bumps in the road surface without feeling discomfort and shaking in the passenger compartment. The driver’s seat is placed high, which together with a large glazing area provide the driver with an excellent overview in any direction. If we talk about the behavior of GLK 350 on highways, we can say with confidence: “The car just eats kilometer by kilometer, giving the driver and passengers absolute comfort.” Volkswagen Golf Last Edition, goodbye without fireworks

Basic equipment

The GLK 350 standard equipment includes the following equipment: anti-lock brake system, tire pressure display system, traction control system, electronic brake force control system, electronic dynamic stabilization system, electronic emergency braking system, immobilizer, burglar alarm, central locking, spare tire size, COMAND multimedia system, trip computer, Bluetooth, multifunction, rear view camera, DVD changer, athermal glazing, rain and lighting, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, front and rear power windows, power tailgate, leather steering wheel and interior trim, 19-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, driver and front passenger airbags and side airbags .

Optional equipment

The optional equipment is a stiffer sports suspension, a Harman Kardon audio system, a jack for an external audio player, side exterior lighting, ventilation of the front seats, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, start-stop system and alloy 20-inch wheels.

Under the hood

Standard equipment of Mercedes GLK 350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 302 horsepower, it is worth mentioning that in 2012 the engine power was 268 horsepower, and the car was equipped with rear-wheel drive. The power unit is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

GLK 350 2015 is equipped with all-wheel drive – branded 4Matic.

When it comes to fuel economy, the performance is not very impressive. Models equipped with rear or all-wheel drive use the same amount – 12.38l / 100km in the city, 9.8l / 100km when driving on the highway, while the average consumption is 11.2l / 100km.

Riding: fast, comfortable, economical … Cool!

Don’t say that, and the Volkswagen Golf is really a standard or almost a standard for its class in terms of ride quality. And the electric version of Golf is fully consistent with the high level of its family.

The Volkswagen e-Golf is expected to drive quietly; it is expected that he picks up speed literally from the start – this is characteristic of all electric vehicles. But what electro-Golf pleasantly surprises with is the acceleration intensity: it claims power of 85 kW (115 hp) and a torque of 270 Nm; Acceleration 0-100 km / h at 10.4 seconds. But in reality it seems that under the hood, a 100-kilowatt (136 hp) electric motor with a torque of 300 Nm, and acceleration to “hundreds” takes less than 10 seconds! For example, the difference with Nissan Leaf for example on paper is small – only 6 “horses” and less than 20 Nm; but in reality there’s just an abyss between them. Moreover, the Volkswagen e-Golf is dynamic and always active: start accelerating at least 20 km / h, at least 80 km / h – you always get a quick response! And at the same time, Volkswagen e-Golf does not “sour” up to the declared “maximum speed” of 140 km / h. Volkswagen Golf GTI “The Original”: limited to 44 units

And it is great at tuning the chassis: the Volkswagen e-Golf is relatively soft, it is very nice, quiet, “noble” fulfills bumps of different sizes. The steering wheel is light, but informative enough; the reactions are quick and logical, there are no delays, failures in effort, or other unpleasant nuances. We only note that eco-tires sometimes stall under the onslaught of the engine during rapid acceleration – an excellent chassis worthy of more tenacious tires, albeit at the expense of mileage.

The result of acquaintance with the Volkswagen e-Golf is a great car: it rides cool, there is enough space in the cabin, good decoration and modern equipment. All that Volkswagen Golf which is loved all over the world now has just received an electric motor.

We think the choice is obvious and the future lies with technology anyway.
