Volkswagen Golf GTI “The Original”: limited to 44 units

5 Jul

The first time the Volkswagen Golf GTI appeared on the scene was the year 1976. Since then it has been leaving a long legacy of almost 44 years in the market, something that the German brand looks proud. That’s why it does not hesitate to carry out tributes to the height, like the one that was done when launching the Volkswagen Golf GTI “The Original”. It is a special edition of which very few units will be made and which is inspired by the original model of more than four decades ago.

Starting from the base of the current Golf GTI in its Performance finish, the manufacturer has decided to make a series of modifications to honor the first GTI. That’s why it receives red stripes in the grille area, black stripes on the side, bright black rear-view mirrors, 19-inch BBS wheels, rear spoiler and the “The Original” logo. It is only available in the body of three doors, like the 1976 and the colors to choose are the same: Pure White or Red Tornado.

Inside the Volkswagen Golf GTI “The Original” also comes that classic atmosphere that is embodied in tartan tapestry and other details such as carpets with red edging or numbered identification plate. The equipment of this specimen is as complete as possible thanks to elements such as the LED headlights, the Dynaudio Excite sound system, the rear view camera, the sunroof and a number of driving aids.

Where there will be more differences is in mechanical section. The Golf GTI mounts the 2.0 TSI engine with 245 HP of power, nothing to do with the 1.6-liter and 110 HP with which it was launched in 1976. It is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and, in this case, is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 248 km / h. Only 44 units of this sport compact will be made, one for each year it celebrates. They can already be booked and are priced at 40,600 euros.
