BMW Concept i4, an advance on the next electric sedan

5 Mar

Prototypes are the vehicles that serve to advance future trends or designs that will be used soon in production. In this way, the BMW Concept i4 is the model that anticipates the future BMW i4, an electric sedan that will hit the market in 2021. You have to look closely at this issue, as it introduces novelties that will be important for the brand at the design level and it is also the first to carry the new logo with two-dimensional and transparent design.

In terms of design, the BMW Concept i4 wants to position itself as a great coupé with a fastback-style silhouette and four doors. What most attracts attention is that huge grill that floods the front. Despite the controversy, it seems that this format of the kidneys vertically and together will be the tonic in the coming years. The headlights are really narrow and there are some details in blue contrasting and making it clear that it is an electric model.

On the side, what stands out are the aerodynamic wheels with a specific design for this model, in addition to that roof fall. In the intermediate zone, some L-shaped rear pilots appear, while the lower one is reserved for a quite prominent diffuser that seeks to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the model.

Inside the BMW Concept i4 is committed to a futuristic aspect that is focused on the driver. Hence the curved screen tilts towards its position and occupies practically the entire dashboard. They ensure that the control of this surface is very intuitive and that it has a technology to avoid reflections. With that huge screen, almost all the buttons are removed and it is clear that the important thing in this cabin is minimalism.

The BMW Concept i4 has three experience modes that change the interior atmosphere. The Core is the most similar to the current visualization, the Sport centers the vision and anticipates curves, and the Efficient shows the most technological vision. Another point where you want to highlight the prototype is the habitability, as it boasts generous rear seats despite its sporty aesthetic with integrated headrests.

On a mechanical level, this model has an electrical system that can achieve a power of up to 530 hp. That would make its performance very prominent, with 0 to 100 km / h in about 4 seconds and a top speed above 200 km / h. It is not specified on its battery, which could be around 80 kWh capacity, but there is already talk of an autonomy of 600 kilometers. The sound of the electric has been created by the composer Hans Zimmer and is changing depending on the driving mode.
