Cross-coupe based on VW Polo: more roomy than the competitor from Chevrolet, plus rich equipment

Volkswagen brand shared fresh details about the Nivus coupe SUV. The model will enter the market in the summer, it will be offered with one engine and only with front-wheel drive.

The Nivus crossover was developed by the Brazilian division of Volkswagen, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that it is the people of Brazil who will receive the new product first. After a series of teasers, the brand finally showed the model alive, albeit in branded camouflage. In addition, the main characteristics of the SUV are disclosed. By the way, despite the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, which almost paralyzed the global economy, the Nivus launch schedule did not suffer much: a full-fledged presentation will take place in June (previously it was planned to be held in May), sales will begin at the same time, and in the second half of the year the novelty will reach other countries of South America.

The coupe-shaped crossover is built on the MQB A0 platform, on which the Polo hatchback, Virtus sedan and T-Cross SUV are also based. Nivus length is 4266 mm, height – 1493 mm, wheelbase – 2566 mm. Volkswagen is especially proud of the “coupe” trunk volume – 415 liters. Dimensions of the related Brazilian hatch Polo: length – 4057 mm, height – 1468 mm, the distance between the axles – the same 2566 mm, cargo compartment – 300 liters. The local T-Cross has the following indicators: 4199/1568 mm, 2651 mm and 373 liters. Also, the Brazilian media recorded in the Nivus rivals the recently launched new generation Chevrolet Tracker, although the “American” has a traditional body. So the Tracker has less trunk – 393 liters (the length of this model is 4270 mm, the wheelbase is 2570 mm). Volkswagen Touareg R, the sports version is also plug-in hybrid

As expected, Nivus will be offered with one engine – “turbo-engine” 1.0 TSI (Polo and T-Cross are also equipped with it), which traditionally for Brazil “feeds” with gasoline or ethanol. In the first case, the engine produces 116 hp, in the second – 128 hp.

The cross-coupe will be available only with a six-speed classic “automatic”, although for relatives it is still provided for “mechanics”.

The equipment list of the top version of the coupe-shaped crossover includes: LED optics, 17-inch wheels, a virtual “tidy”, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and frontal distance control systems (Front Assist). And the SUV received a new multimedia system VW Play, developed in Brazil. Judging by the previously published video teaser, its difference from the complexes of the current “five-doors” Polo, Virtus and T-Cross is the lack of physical buttons on the big screen.

Nivus will not become an “exclusive” for South America, the model will also be assembled and sold in Europe: there the new product will appear in 2021, but it is not known where it will be adjusted.
