Aston Martin V12 Speedster: a road fighter without a windshield

16 Mar

Aston Martin continues to develop a series of winged aircraft-related models: its brightest representative debuted this week – the V12 Speedster two-seater supercar with a unique carbon-fiber body that does not have a roof and a windshield.

Previous Aston Martin flirting with aviation within the Wings Series was limited to the exclusive decor of existing models: Vanquish S Red Arrows Edition, Vantage Blades Edition, V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 and DBS Superleggera Concorde were embroidered in this format. But the V12 Speedster is a special case: in terms of technology, this is a combined hodgepodge of components and assemblies from the Vantage and DBS Superleggera models, but the body is completely original, made of carbon fiber and painted in the original color of the American F / A-18 carrier-based fighter, which was obtained Boeing approval. Mention of the famous winged car in the form of decals can also be found on the thresholds and the central jumper of the body, which separates the driver and passenger seats. Carbon-fiber helmets, without which riding in such a car can be a deadly ride, are stored in wave-like fairings behind individual safety arches. The rear spoiler is elegantly integrated into the body and incorporating lights. 21-inch forged wheels are attached to the hubs with one central nut. Through their thin knitting needles, you can see carbon-ceramic brakes with a diameter of 410 mm in front and 360 mm in the rear.

The design of the V12 Speedster cockpit uses a whole collection of original details that other Aston Martin models do not have: a leather case with red ribbons of fasteners in the glove compartment, decorative straps on the central tunnel and door handles, metal vertically oriented air ducts and the like trifle. Instead of a windshield, two individual carbon visors are installed, directing air over the heads of riders. The screen of the multimedia system in case of rain will be covered by the very central partition between the seats. Aston Martin also offers custom garages to match your cars

Under the hood is a 5.2-liter V12 biturbo motor, common for top models of Aston Martin, (700 hp, 753 Nm), docked with an 8-speed ZF “automatic”, all power is supplied to the rear wheels via a self-locking differential. A specially designed stainless steel exhaust system emits a particularly dramatic growl. The Aston Martin V12 Speedster accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.5 s, and the maximum speed is 300 km / h. In total, Aston Martin intends to release 88 copies of the V12 Speedster model costing £ 765 each, the first vehicles ordered by customers will be shipped at the beginning of next year. We would like to believe that due to the precarious financial situation of Aston Martin, the V12 Speedster will not suffer the same fate as the four-door Rapide E, which had to be canceled after the announcement.
