New Brabus 900 based on Mercedes Gelandewagen: 4 fewer cylinders, but faster than its predecessor

German tuning studio Brabus has unveiled the most powerful version of the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class, dubbed the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition. The number indicates the horsepower output of the V8 engine. The circulation of the novelty will be only 25 copies.

 The previous Brabus 900 based on “Gelika” debuted in September 2017, that is, it was based on an SUV of the previous generation, with a dependent front suspension (in the current generation, the front suspension is independent). Under its hood was installed a bored 6.3-liter V12 with a maximum output of 900 hp. and 1500 Nm, but for the sake of the safety of the transmission resource, the limiting moment was limited by electronics at around 1200 Nm. The previous Brabus 900 accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds, top speed – 270 km / h. Only 10 copies were produced, the price for each one is 666,000 euros.

This week, the Bottrop company unveiled the Brabus 900 in the back of a new Helicon with the V8 engine we already know from other atelier models. This engine is based on the stock M 177, the working volume of which has been increased from 4.0 to 4.5 liters, new crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, valves, more efficient turbochargers and fuel pumps, new intake and exhaust systems, and an original control program are installed. The maximum power is 900 hp. The maximum torque is 1250 Nm, but it is again limited (up to 1050 Nm), so as not to burn the stock 9-speed “automatic”. The first “hundred” Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is gaining in 3.7 s, top speed – 280 km / h. For sale 35 Mercedes G-Class military specification. Wunderbar!

The Adaptive Brabus RideControl suspension, with its wider track and 45mm lower ground clearance, has been specially developed for this model and promises agility never seen before in Mercedes Gelandewagen. At the same time, the three stock differential locks are preserved, although it is difficult to imagine that someone on such a car would ever use them. The tire sizes fitted to the CFRP wheels are 295/30 ZR 24 at the front and 355/25 ZR 24 at the rear.

The exterior is slightly less brutal than the 2017 Brabus 900, the detailing is more elegant and at the same time richer. The aerodynamic body kit is made on the basis of the Widestar wide-body kit, which can also be obtained on less powerful Mercedes Gelandewagen from Brabus, but it is complemented by a spoiler under the front bumper, a more aggressive-looking false radiator grille, a modified roof spoiler, carbon fiber lining on the wheel extensions arches and diffuser under the rear bumper.

The interior, of course, is completely altered and stuffed with carbon to the eyeballs, and the two-screen “tidy” received new graphics from Brabus. In the second row, like its predecessor, there are two individual chairs, separated by a high multifunctional box. Color design is limited only by the imagination of the customer.

All this splendor is worth it – 571,270 euros per copy and, most likely, all the planned 25 SUVs have already been booked.

The Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is the fastest in the line of Mercedes Gelandewagen, but it is definitely not the most technically sophisticated, because last year the studio showed the world a unique Brabus 800 Adventure XLP pickup with wheel gears and 490 mm ground clearance.
