The last Porsche 911 of the previous generation is auctioned to fight the coronavirus

14 Apr

For a few months we have among us a new generation of the Porsche 911. It is the eighth installment, the one known with the numbering 992 and which replaces the previous 991. Although its farewell will not be in vain, as the last Porsche 911 (991) will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to the “COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund” created by United Way Worldwide. The car will not be alone, as there will be some other elements to increase its attractiveness.

And that is not enough, because this last unit of the sports car that left the assembly line in December is an exclusive Porsche 911 Speedster. This version is a limited edition of 1,948 copies (for the year the brand was founded) and this is the last of all. It was in the possession of Porsche North America which has decided to make this generous donation by auctioning the vehicle through RM Sotheby’s.

The Porsche 911 Speedster will be auctioned online to maintain the much-needed distance in this situation. It is a unit with that recognizable silver GT Silver Metallic and some details in white, including the number 88 in its decoration, corresponding to the Heritage Design package. In the rear position is the mechanical 4.0-liter six-cylinder atmospheric boxer, capable of reaching up to 9,000 laps and whose power amounts to 509 HP. Of course, it is linked to a manual gearbox.

The highest bid in this auction will not only win the brand’s new vehicle, but also some notable extras. The 911 Speedster Heritage Design watch is included, an exclusive chronograph that has the same chassis number and color scheme as the car. The highest bidder will also be invited to take a tour of the Porsche facility in Weissach, with track driving guided by experts from the brand. In addition, you will receive a book that illustrates the assembly and completion of the last 991. We do not know the value that this package will achieve, but it can be high due to the exclusivity and because the Porsche 911 Speedster already exceeds 300,000 euros.
